Recent Safety Initiatives and Programs
Butterfly Parade Bazaar Success
  • Successful collaboration with PGPD.
  • Distributed Narcan and discussed safety protocols.
  • Positive community interaction.
October: Great American Shake Out Month
  • Annual earthquake drill ("Drop, Cover, and Hold On").
  • Reinforces preparedness for students and staff.
  • All schools participate as part of comprehensive Big Five safety training.
  • Ensures updated emergency supplies and procedures.
Wildlife Activity on Campuses
  • Mountain lion activity reported (Oct 10, Forest Grove).
  • Increased wildlife sightings expected during deer rutting season (Mid-Oct to Nov).
  • Precautions: Walk in groups, avoid wooded/brushy areas, report unusual sightings.
  • Big Five "Shelter in Place" to be implemented if wildlife observed during school hours.
Facilities & Safety Project Priorities
  • Meetings held with district admin, site admin, and B and D team.
  • Discussed priority facility improvements related to campus safety.

Safe Routes to School Programs
PGMS
Bike Safety Presentation for all Middle Schoolers (Oct 28-29) during PE classes.
PGHS
Bike Rack Chat with Principal O'Meara & Chief Day (PGPD) on safe operating practices for bicycles and E-Bikes.
RHD & FG
Comprehensive traffic safety education programs scheduled. Includes:
  • Walk Safe (2nd grade): Pedestrian safety skills, "Walking Field Trip."
  • Bike Safe (5th grade): Street safety, bike rodeo, loaner bikes/helmets.
Countywide Safety Symposium (Oct 24th)
  • Monterey County educators and partners to strengthen student wellness, safety, and preparedness.
  • Focus on collaboration, prevention, response strategies, and role-specific breakout sessions.
  • Attendees: District/Site Administrators, District Safety Committee Members, Board members invited.
